Did anyone see the new rule in general regulations. No more blinders = more redlights.

Rob, General Regulations 7:8 Windshields,windows. The section reads same as 2007 except last sentence.

I don't think the new rule prevents the use of blinders. I prevents the use of certain types of blinders, although NHRA needs to be clear about this.

NOW HOW DOES THE 4 TENTHS TREE LOOK !!!!!!!!

Well if the board would have gone to a 4 tenths tree the BLINDER and the 3 inch button would have bit the dust. All I can say is this will be a CRUTCHLESS ELIMINATOR.:D:D
 
Looks like it just covers taping your helmet and attaching to your windshield/windscreen. So if you made a bracket (in a door car) from the top piece of tubing that runs run across where the roof meets the windshield, that would be OK. On dragsters, make a set of upper mounts like the ones you use to get out of the car and put the blinders on them.

I think the poeple that have used blinders for years will be unaffected by this because their blinders do not touch their helmet, windscreen ot windshield. I think they stuck the "but not limited to" in order to cover their butts.

From what I have been told, the "Blinders" as NHRA is refering to is on the side of the windshield of a body car and on the sides of the helmets, sort of like they have on horses. The safety hazard came in when the car in one lane can only see directly in front of him. He couldn't see the other car coming in his lane becaause he was blocked by the blinder on the helmet & windshields. If you looked at some of the stock & SS cars, it was getting a little out of hand. I sure NHRA was not refering to the 2 square inchs of material that was used for the tree only. If that were the case, what would they do with the blowers & mags blocking the view of many drivers? Maybe Len could clarify this new ruling for us.

Sounds to me like the blinders in our car are still legal. They are attatched to the halo portion of the roll cag and are in no way shape or form attatched to Scott's Helmet or the windshield. They should change the definiton of grey area in Webster's Dictionary to: See NHRA Rulebook!!!

But they won't, and yes I do use one. Unless NHRA makes us race without a helmet, it would be impossible to ban blinders as we call them. If that were the case, NHRA would of said "sun visors and/or shields are now illegal"
 
I read it the same way Craig did. I think the rule is to keep items from blocking the view fo the driver while he is on the track. I dont think it applies to the blinder devices most comp drivers use.

just one guys view! :)

additionally, NHRA knowing so many drivers use them in Comp would have made a more formal announcment and not just drop in a line in a "general" section of the rule book.

( STAGING AIDS) What about the person who helps pre stage a Top Fuel , Funny car, Pro stock, TAD, AFC, and Pro Mod is this considered a STAGING AID?????????????

554, Boy is that a dead issue. How about something that NHRA MIGHT consider, like free PowerAid after a run?
 
My rule book has not arrived yet but if the rule is under general & windshields and the printer of the book didn't make some typo than it could effect around 50% of the cars in Comp thru Stock.
An aid for staging?
Who comes up with this stuff?
We need to be represented on these kind of rules!
We(comp) don't seem to be togather on much of anything so getting organized like the PRO is out of the question.
Maybe the car count is too high, this should help for the TV time.
The TV time that is usually delayed for the little league games.
I always thought when Wally(RIP) was gone, so would we.
It didn't take very long.

Just got off the phone with one of our D4 Tech men. If you use a blinder its not good news. His understanding is, no blinders what so ever. Nothing at all. No tape on the windshield, nothing on the helmet or visor, no fold down sunvisor types (which was my type) nothing at all. It seems it all started from the Pros taping up there visors so they wouldn't be distracted by whats going on in the other lane. I think I'll get my practice tree out of the back.:eek:
 
I hope it isn't just how OUR tech men view it.This really needs to be cleared up.It could be looked at different from division to division.Len,we need some insight here......
 
He also said theres another issue. The help of a crew member who pulls you up to the tree. This could also be viewed as a staging aid.:confused:
 
Whats next? No radios? I'm pretty sure it's just as easy for a crew member outside the car with a radio helping the driver stage, letting them know whats going on in the other lane, etc. Total joke.
