Why did NHRA change the ladder system back to 1 runs 17 2 runs 18, etc...

At the majority of the races this is a major penalty for qualifying high in the ladder.

1 racing 32, 2 racing 31 makes so much more sense when you really look at it...

Dan

A pro ladder would kill the car count because newcomers would simply be first round fodder.

'middle of the order'

just from outside observation, it seems like you have your home run hitters that go for the top spot, then you have the guys that are top of the pack cars, but aren't going for the top spot, and they're shooting for upper middle of the pack, to run the lower part of the ladder.

with that in mind, realistically i don't think the sportsman ladder does what it was intended for. bottom line, sportsman or pro ladder, a .40 under car doesn't have much of a chance.

actually with a pro ladder, everybody would be qualifying as hard as they could. your 'true' middle of the pack cars would be up against 'true' middle pack cars in round one instead of the homerun hitter no. 1 qualifier guys.

when everything shakes out, a bottom pack car may have a better shot with that home run hitter in r1. that middle of the pack car that runs .55 under like a bracket car is going to be much harder for him to take out....that home run hitter may have an extreme combo like a turbo or blown deal....may be a little more on the edge...i know that looks crazy on paper, but we all know how much that paper stuff will get you on the track....

i'm for the pro ladder because i think it rewards the top guys, and it gives the middle of the pack a better draw. but that's just my .02...

I agree that it helps the car count and it does mix up the show a little more as the slower cars have humbeled a few fast guys with a cic or lose on occasion. If it all came down to who is the fastest then why race the top gualifier should always win.

I've driven cars both at the top 5 on the ladder and the bottom 5 of the ladder............ my personal opinion is that if I'm in a -.40 car, I'd rather run a -.55 car than a -.65 car........... and I think there would be a better chance of winning the round.........

I don't think the top qualifiers should be given a free round........... let them run a middle of the pack car that they might only have covered by a tenth........... rather than a bottom of the pack guy that they have covered by two or more tenths........ let the tree come into play a little.......... and like Dave Ring said, I think if you go with the pro ladder, you might not see a full field again.........especially with escalating entry fees, travel expenses, etc, etc.............

Well Dan........ my point is that the Sportsman Ladder allows for closer races in the first round, and does not reward the faster qualifiers with a free first round win......... every round is worth points both National and Divisional......... they should be earned, not given............. cha-ching....... just another .02 cents....
