How does it happen?

Isn't it amazing how some racers who make good runs ,all of the sudden pick up 5mph!!!!!!!Must be a 50mph tail wind that suddenly shows up when they need it. Oh yea it's only in their lane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to be watching more closely, possibly more to come when we are at the same races!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It happens at more races than you realize. I noticed it last year at some of the races,I won't name names for now, but they know who they are.

It's real easy to kill power one run and have it back for the next. The MSD boxes can do many things to make this happen. You can even put a override button in the car to hit if you need to have the extra speed but did not program it in the car before the run.

Michael, I think what is happening is that the nose is taking the finish line stripe and the wheel is taking the MPH stripe(thus making it a shorter distance). This happens quite often in Super Stock and stock with cars that are marginal with the front end height. If you are under power the front end is high enough to not take the mph or finish line beam, but when you lift right before the finish line the front end can take the stripe.

It looked like that Doug Lambeck had the same scenario when he beat Lee Sharp round 3 at the Phoenix national event, he picked up 5-6 mph.

Hope this helps,
Kyle

Hey Kyle, your post makes a lot of sense. I will say it has never happened with any of our cars,I know how high the lights are because I measure them from time to time.Maybe I am going out on a limb, but it seems some come out with it at the magical moment ( they run the same when everybody else slows up) but it may be just my observation. I just want everybody to look a little closer at this.
