Question about XS Power Lithium 16V 6.5lb battery

Has anyone ever put one of these units through its paces? The one I am referring to can be identified in the banner ad section of the National Dragster. The part number is L925-16.

These batteries are on sale by the way for $1195 with a charger, which ends at the turn of this month if anyone was interested.

I bought one last week and tried it. For my application it was not the best setup. I run two water pumps,a fan,ECU,MSD 10 and a few other things and it did not have enough reserve to handle all that.

I also did not understand that it is important to have a seprate battery for running everything in the pits and to only use the battery for the actual run.

I am selling it for $950 with charger if anybody is interested.Only been in the car once in the pits.

The battery is pretty prevalent in the Pro Mod Outlaw crowd...no minimum weight classes. As I am sure you know, those cars beat the hell out of every component on the car. So lasting in that environment definitely says something for the product. The Lithium started out with a black eye, before really coming into drag racing. The Lithium is a moody little thing, kind of like my wife but I will get back to the battery. When a Lithium is overchaged, it literally explodes. The lithium charger is sophisticated enough now to prevent that and the lithium is well suited for drag racing. Paul Albino, who is the crew chief on an outlaw pro mod car makes a great one. Mark, this product has 90 day 100% satisfaction guarantee so you are welcome to return it for a full refund to the distributor you bought it from (or direct to the factory if you bought it here.)

XS Power is also releasing another battery, the L1600, that has double the reserve. It will be out next week and it may be a good fit for you. Call me and we can talk it more.

Hi Kevin,

I do not feel right returning it because there is NOTHING wrong with it. I just did not do enough research before buying it. My car needs alot of stuff running between rounds and I did not know the other teams were plugging a seprate battery in to do that. At the track it is just Dana and I running the car and we get a bit overwhelmed between rounds sometimes so haveing one more thing to worry about (plugging in another batt) just was not for us.

It is a great product, just not right for my setup.

Cool

Mark
I dont want to jack a thread but I just got my copy of the new HP books called "Performance Fuel Injection Systems" and saw a picture of your car making a run.. Caption says "High powered turbo motors like Mark Wolfe's six second Thunderbird experience a wide range of air flow from idle to full throttle.........."
Nice to know a celebrity.

Mark, I really appreicate your honesty in this and of course you can do with the product as you wish.

As a company we have sat and watched the mayhem with lithium batteries in racing over the past three or four years. The technology is changing rapidly and what was true last year is not necessarily true this year. Also there is a lot to learn about their characteristics vs. lead acid and therefore a lot of education for us as a manufacturer to do. To top it off, they're expensive. We are working to get the costs down but like everything new, it's just expensive.

All that being said, we instituted this 90 days 100% satisfaction guarantee to make adopting the technology more reachable. We are willing to share the risk of trying it. We are not asking the racing community to extensively research it and cautiously try it. Instead try it today and we'll work with you to make the product do what you need to do AND allow you to step back out of it if it doesn't fit. Fundamentally lithium will beat the snot out of a lead acid battery in the areas of weight reduction, cycle life, and run time. For racing it's a no-brainer. Getting it packaged in a manner that meets your specific needs is a little more difficult to define but that can be done too with a little work.

Sorry it's a long winded post but the bottom line is you do not have to take a loss on this battery. Call and get an RGA number and a refund if you can't someone right around you to put it to good use today. I know one thing, that battery needs to be going down the track somewhere.

Call me if you want to try one of these larger prototypes...
